The University of Cape Coast was the host of the Triangular football games between the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and the University of Cape Coast. The game was held from the 8th-13th of June 2021.

The idea of Triangular Games was mooted by the Sports Directorates of these three colleges to set up their different teams for the forthcoming maiden version of the Federation of African Universities Sports (FASU) Football Championship and furthermore fortify the sporting ties that exist among them. 

Prior to the games, UG’s Chief  Coach, Mr. Yusif Amuda Tahiru spoke to UG sport news about the  progress of the team;

“I am glad to see the hardwork, team work and how quick the team has adapted within this period. The performances we saw in the friendly matches gives us the hope and confidence going into the Triangular Games. The goal of Team UG is to perform well, win the trophy and cultivate a tournament winning culture in this team as the FASU Football Championship beckons”

The first game was between the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the University of Ghana (UG) on Wednesday, 9th of June at the Robert Mensah Sports stadium, Cape Coast, and ended 2-1 in favor of the University of Ghana. 

The second game was between the University of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and ended 1 nil in favor of UG. The game between UCC and KNUST ended in a penalty shootout and KNUST was victorious and was awarded two points while UCC was awarded a point after losing at the shootout. 

The University of Ghana football team was crowned champions of the Triangular games after finishing with six points while KNUST and UCC finished with 2 points and 1 point respectively.
