The 2021 National Universities Education Students’ Association (NUESA) DEAN’s Cup of the University of Lagos will hold at the University of Lagos Sports center and staff school. This year’s games-themed: ”Les Gladiateurs” will witness a plethora of sports such as football, basketball, table tennis, long jump, and athletics. The game is scheduled to start Monday 5th of July 2021 and end Wednesday, 14th July 2021.

 

There were few bumps on the road during the organization of the event, one of such was the Covid-19 pandemic that halted all sporting activities across the world. The event was scheduled to hold before the nationwide lockdown in March 2020 but had to be postponed indefinitely. 

 

“There were quite a lot of challenges organizing this event,  the biggest was finance. The event was billed to hold a week before the Covid break in school and now many sponsors have pulled out due to the financial impact of Covid and things have become expensive. So funds are as good as gone.” Samuel Bamisebi NUESA Sport secretary lamented.

 

“Next was the availability of facilities. The school’s sports Centre is having a facelift and some facilities are unavailable, most especially the pitch for male football so we had to look for a smaller sized pitch which resulted in us changing the format from 11 a-side to 8 a-side”. Samuel added.

 

The NUESA Sports Secretary seeks to discover athletes who can represent the Faculty at the Inter-faculty games scheduled next session. He said: “we’re hoping to discover athletes who can represent the faculty and even stake a claim in the school team for different sports and this was the major reason for the addition of the long jump which will be an event in the Dean’s cup of the faculty for the first time ever in its history.”
