The Athletics Federation of Nigeria kick-starts its season with an All Comers meet in the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) on Saturday, January 30, 2021.

Couple of Student Athletes dazzled with some spectacular performances. Top on the list is Enoch Adegoke from the Obafemi Awolowo University.

Enoch Adegoke was the highlight of the competition as he ran a World lead of 10.16s. The fastest time in the world this year to take the 100m men’s final A, breaking the world lead formerly held by Australia’s Jack Dorac at 10.23s. The race was so intense that FUTA’s Alaba Akintola placed 3rd, returning a time of 10.40s – his fastest season opener so far.

In the women’s equivalent, National Champion and University of Lagos Athlete Joy Udo – Gabriel had a good start and maintained her lead to the finish, winning the 100m final (A) in a season best of 11.72s with University of Port Harcourt’s Praise Idamadudu clocking 11.81s in second place.

Having ran a time of 10.40s in the 100m men’s final (A), FUTA’s Akintola clocked 21.20s in 200m heat (13) finishing first place.

Uniport Praise Idamadudu finished first place after clocking 23.97s in the 200m women’s Heat 5.

In the 400m men heat 10, FUNAAB Egbechuliem Raphael finished 4th place clocking 48.35s

Stella Ayanleke from the University of Lagos came in 3rd place with 14.35s at the 100m women’s hurdle.
