The hype, the vibes, the beauty, the glamour and the splendor, the Nigeria University Games Association lived up to expectation as thousand of students from over 70 Universities converged on the campus of University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos.
With the competition being opened by what was a world standard opening ceremony, worthy of an oscar, students began to compete for medals in various sports with the first medal going to the host university, in then Women’s 5km race walk but soon, University of Portharcourt, Nile University, Abuja, Obafemi Awolowo University and the many others began to fill their cabinets.






The medal table began to take shape and Uniport established their dominance as one of the best university in terms of sports with their history of being the overall winner of the games in the last four editions. Taking massive dominance in swimming along with Nile University and combat.
Some other winners include Obafemi Awolowo University winning the Women’s basketball, University of Ilorin winning men’s football, Nile University taking men’s volleyball and basketball, Unilag and Unilorin dominating and sharing all the squash medals and so on.
Eventually, with an awesome ceremony, the events came to a close with Uniport being the overall winners with 61 gold medals, 29 silver and 30 bronze medals, totaling 120 medals.
Host university, University of Lagos, finished second overall with 33 gold medals, 34 silver and 19 bronze medals, making a total of 86 medals with Nile University Abuja coming third with 15 gold medals, 10 silver and 13 bronze medals making a total of 38 medals.
The top 10 was completed by University of Ilorin, University of Benin, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Federal University of Technology, Akure and University of Nigeria Nsukka accordingly.
