Alone strike from Ian Owiti was enough to give hosts Kenyatta University the first three points in the football event of the 2022 All African University Games against West African university L’università Gamal Abdel Nasser De Conakry of Guinea to get the ball rolling.
Stalemate at halftime and into the second half, the game looked like it was going to end in a draw with both teams failing to convert their chances.
The deadlock was broken a few minutes before the end of the games with a well placed shot form Owiti to send the home ground into a frenzy.
The jubilation was incredible largely due to the large support from the Kenyatta University ladies soccer Team and members of University community.
The Captain of Kenyatta University said he is happy to lead his team to win the first match. “it is not an easy task to win a first match in any competition I am delighted for the 3 points, I congratulate my team, coach and officials who made it possible for the win. We look forward to the next win in order to advance to the next stage”.
Kenyatta University will face Makerere University Business School in the second game on Tuesday while L’université Gamal Abdel Nasser De Conakry will take on American University in Cairo.
